D S Simon Productions conducted a nationwide survey that allowed broadcasters and reporters to grade PR professionals and give insight into newsroom trends. Stations reported only 31 percent of PR people who pitch them were knowledgeable about their newscasts.
Overall, 56 percent of broadcasters, who responded, love to be pitched via email. Last year the percentage was 67 percent, which indicates that there is a possible inbox overload. With regards to content, 79 percent had the highest interest in healthcare.
“On the bright side, 69 percent of respondents said PR Pros help them do a better job,” says Douglas Simon, President & CEO of D S Simon Productions, which conducted the survey. More than half of the stations surveyed carry content on their Web sites that does not air on their newscasts. Station Web sites offer an additional PR opportunity.
