Doug Simon, President & CEO of D S Simon Productions, turns the spotlight on Paul Ryan’s speech. Did he make case to the Republican base watching at home and in attendance that he was the right choice for the role of Mitt Romney’s running mate?
“Perhaps Paul Ryan’s biggest accomplishment was to make it seem that Romney made the correct decision to pick him as his VP. His performance was significantly better than Christie’s or Portman who were other VP contenders.”
“He made a good play for the “generational change” argument comparing his iPod but if he was really going young, he might have been better off going with Adele and Wyclef rather than AC/DC and Zepplin. That conjured up the disturbing image of his small business owner Mom singing him to sleep with Highway to Hell when he was 7 years old.
But that might have been smart considering the demographics of who is watching: Brian Stetler of The New York Times reported 75% of first night viewers were over the age of 55. They not only could relate to his music choices but to preserving medicare as is for those over 55.”
“On foreign policy, I was surprised that he seemed to broach a Ryan/Romney doctrine of interventionism when freedom is at stake. This might come up in his debate with Joe Biden arguing we don’t want to go back to the failed policies of the previous administration.”
