President & CEO of D S Simon Productions vlogs with Ellen Beth Levitt, the Director of Public Affairs & Media Relations at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore at the PRSA Health Academy Conference in Chicago.

Some of Ellen Beth’s VlogViews: Ellen Beth told Doug about how a man from Buffalo, N.Y. found an alternative to traditional heart bypass surgery by searching on the Internet. He discovered Ellen Beth’s video podcast with a surgeon who performs minimally invasive heart bypass surgery using a robot. The man decided that was what he needed and he booked a flight to Baltimore.

“With a Google search, he found our video with our heart surgeon who was doing minimally invasive heart bypass surgery using The DaVinci surgical robot. The interview showed him that there was another option to have bypass surgery with a much faster recovery compared to traditional heart bypass.”

“About the same time he was watching this interview, an email from Southwest Airlines popped up on his computer that advertised special $49 flights from Buffalo to Baltimore. He thought this was a sign–and he decided to book a flight.”

Anna Marie Johnson Teague from Dawson, Murray, Teague Communications

Recorded at the Editor Showcase, Modern Moms Conference.

Some of Anna Marie’s Views:

In the current economic market we have to look at targeted and cost effective ways to earn media for our clients. For Verizon Foundation’s Thinkfinity which is a website it makes a lot more sense for us to go after online media because there’s direct click-through to the site and people can experience those wonderful resources immediately.

Some of Rachel’s VlogViews:

“It’s good to put a face on those who are pitching you. It gives that person an extra boost. If you see an email from someone you met at an event it really helps. I’m more likely to read that email.”

“When pitching it’s really important to have detailed info about the product with pictures if possible. Because if I just receive a bunch of text, I’m going to skip to the next email.”

“Our main target was reaching our to the allergy community, these are very loyal, passionate customers out there. And they are blogging about it online.”

“We wouldn’t have gotten into the thousands of stores without [the allergy community] actually demanding, in some cases, from their store manager. Having that come from their mouths has been so powerful for placement on the retail level.”

“Allergies are an issue. That’s the issue we’ve been pushing in marketing. This is an issue and here is an alternative.”
